west along Hwy 417, past Arnprior; we turnoff onto Campbell Drive
for registration and a snack; Mary Campbell is our host. The
morning is a "loop" near White Lake. First a visit to Bob
Hinchley, the Tartan Weaver on Kippen Road; then we visit Joan
Kendrick at "The Cameron Farm" - with the restored original log
cabin home. Then we go to
Burnstown,
a small community originally settled by the Scots; after seeing
some buildings we have a light lunch - location to be confirmed.
Then on to Renfrew with a visit to the
McDougall
Mill Museum with
interesting suspension bridge over the Bonnechere River. We avoid
the part of town with the Fairground - the Renfrew Fair takes
place on 10 Sept. Crossing Hwy 17 & on to cty 20 - to reach
Castleford. Just before the Bonnechere River Bridge (Ferguson's
Beach) there is a Historical Plaque. We visit Juby Dob 'The valley
Carver ' - he does a good wooden model of a Scots piper,
Travelling furthe on River Road (cty 1) Sand Point is reached. A
local tour of "Scots people and places" there is planned. Full
driving instructions will be provided to registrants.
A flier will be mailed to all
members in August.
