The
tour has little driving on Hwy 7. Travel along Hwy 417 west to the
Almonte turnoff. Take this, go through Almonte, past the Auld
Kirk, and finally reach Middleville; park between the Church (on
the left, by the cross roads) and the Museum (right at the cross
roads). It is a 5-minute walk from the Museum parking lot back to
the Church. Fiurther driving instructions will be
provided.
A speaker has agreed to
introduce us to the area - with Scots settlement from 1820; the
talk will be immediately after registration, in the Middleville
Chuch Hall. Our visit to Watson's Corners will include a visit and
presentation about the "Auld Scots Library" from 1825. A light
lunch in a Church in Lanark, then a visit to the
museum.
After a stopover in Balderson,
a visit to the Matheson House Museum; tea and a presentation are
being planned. Best way home from Perth is via Franktown and
Richmond - direct and avoiding Hwy 7 traffic. Good roads the whole
tour.
